GitHut

With GitHut I decided to go geeky for the second time and after visualizing the most famous sorting algorithms in SORTING, I tried to visualize and explore the complexity of the universe of programming languages used across the repositories hosted on GitHub.

Github is the largest code host in the world, with 3.4 million users. It’s the place where the open-source development community offers access to most of its projects. By analyzing how languages are used in GitHub it is possible to understand the popularity of programming languages among developers and also to discover the unique characteristics of each language.

The core of the projects is the main ranked parallel coordinates + bars chart, that depicts the top 25 programming languages in terms of their activity rate on GitHub. The visualization also presents different indicators, each of them describes the particular ways developers tend to use languages in projects.

The second part of the project shows the usage of the top 25 languages in time, both in terms of number of active repositories and in terms of percentage on the total number of activities on GitHub.
